The energy transition is rapidly accelerating. In order to keep up with our power grid, Alliander needs to switch to a proactive way of working. This means we will start making predictions for technologies like heat pumps, solar panels, and electric vehicles that have a high impact on our power grid, in order to be prepared when their adoption is coming.
In this talk we will present how Alliander uses its data and cloud computation to get our grid ready for the future. We'll talk about how to predict the adoption of different technologies, how to simulate their impact on the low-voltage part of our grid, and how we use these simulations to make informed decisions about how to strategize and prioritise the upgrades on our grid. We did all of this using a stack built on Github Actions, S3, and AWS Batch using the Polars library for data transformations.
